Environmentally friendly cultivation today is a dominant factor. Crop protection, herbicides, fertilisation, separating different waste and the energy policy are therefore major fields of attention within our operational management activities. We grow our plants according to the highest MPS requirements, scouting weekly all crops for possible diseases and plagues. In this way we seek to minimise the use of herbicides. For heating the greenhouses we use residual heat for up to 80%. This helps us push down the discharge of combustion gasses which of course saves the environment. Ovata has continuously been receiving the MPS-A status since 1998.
Mid-2003 Ovata received the MPS-GAP qualification. MPS-GAP is an acknowledgement regulation for producers of ornamental plant products. The qualification dovetails with existing business and registration systems such as MPS, EUREPGAP and ISO. The production requirements and guidelines set by supermarket organisations have been indicated in the MPS-GAP targeting cultivation circumstances, working conditions, environment and nature. The guidelines are applicable throughout the world and prevail over national legislation; they are the same in every country. This means that each MPS-GAP certified company meets the same criteria. More information about MPS is available on this informationpage.
