Gasteria sophie

Easy and strong

Gasteria sophie is a sturdy, but not too fast-growing succulent. It is symmetrical in shape, with beautiful dark green leaves speckled with light green dots.

Born in South Africa

The Gasteria belongs to the family of the Affodilfamilie (Asphodelaceae) and grows mostly in South Africa and Namibië. This area consists of jagged rocky mountains, but also of vast hilly landscapes. The Gasteria generally grows on the shadow side. The Gasteria also stores water in its thick leaves, which enable it to withstand long droughts. Its growth season is in the winter months, when it is dark, cold and rainy. At that time the plant starts growing, while in the summer the plant is at rest. A Gasteria variety distinguishes itself by the leaf pattern. Often they are white stripes or spots.
